Chilean Mapuches sue Microsoft for unwanted translation

datePosted on 15:47, November 25th, 2006 by Brian

From the article:

Mapuche tribal leaders have accused the U.S. company of violating their cultural and collective heritage by translating the software into Mapuzugun without their permission.

How many people have asked and asked for Microsoft to translate software into their language? About 400,000 speakers and the tribe leaders don’t want native translations. Go figure.

Oh Hillary…

From this article.
“At the rate that technology is advancing, people will be implanting chips in our children to advertise directly into their brains and tell them what kind of products to buy,” Clinton said at the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Hillary, Hillary, Hillary.

T-shirts

datePosted on 08:58, October 7th, 2005 by Brian

This is absurd. Not the wearing t-shirts, the price some people pay for them. This AJC article talks about how “trendy” t-shirts are now. But the best line is the last line:
“T-shirts are part of a lifestyle now,” Arshid said. “You’re not going to wear a $25 Urban Outfitters tee with your $250 jeans. You’re going to rock something with more of a limited edition feel to it.”

One view of the world

Below is the text of a letter to the editor of the AJC. I posted the whole text because things have a habbit of dissappearing of the AJC website. Original page.

Monied America lacks moral goodness

Congratulations, monied America: You wanted your gated communities to keep out the poor, to protect yourselves from crime, to separate yourselves from undesirables. You took the high roads and built your gated communities on them so you would stay dry and clean while the stormwaters of filth and despair flooded their neighborhoods.

You did it. You kept out the poor, you concentrated the crime in the poor neighborhoods, effectively ensuring those neighborhoods would remain poor and broken. You separated yourselves from the undesirables.

And then you left them, to die in attics and on rooftops and in the streets and in the disgusting halls of commerce and sports. The richest nation in the world is the most destitute when it comes to true moral goodness. God could not bless this America at all.

Well, what do you think?
