FairTax and sanctions

datePosted on 11:47, October 26th, 2007 by Brian

I just had an epiphany. We know that if the FairTax manages to get passed a lot of companies would move their headquarters here for the huge tax break. That’s reason enough to support FairTax. But my epiphany is the fact that with more international companies having their HQ in the US-of-A when we enact sanctions on a country none of those companies would be allowed to deal with them. The US would gain an incredible monetary weapon to use against nations not wanting to play our game.

Pay for tax cuts

“Don’t cut taxes unless you have a plan to pay for it.”

This is one of the things Hillary Clinton said during an interview on the Fox Business Channel this morning. That’s a scary thought. It defies all logic and reason. How does a person see the people of America if a tax cut requires payment. The taxes are a payment. She said later in the interview that she believes the top income earners can afford to pay more taxes so the middle class can have a break. I’m all for the middle class paying less taxes. But I also think everyone who pays taxes should have to pay less and the federal government needs to spend less.

One of the reasons I’m With Fred

Byron York on Fred Thompson & Jeri Thompson on National Review Online

Guess I haven’t been keeping up with the liberal rags. Like, you know, the Washington Post and Newsweek. Well, Fred Thompson’s wife, Jeri, has been helping get things ready for the campaign. Some say she’s been causing rifts in the camp. Fred says that’s bologna. A lot of the articles mention Jeri’s past. And, as all good liberals know, fact checkers need not apply.

The former senator said his wife’s actions, however they have been interpreted in the press, have been at his behest. “She always looks out for my best interests, and when she sees something that she knows I would not approve of, or is not in my best interest, she voices that concern — in other words, just exactly the way I would want her to. Now, some people don’t like that, especially some people who have their own issue with regard to the campaign, shall we say, and they take advantage of putting out anonymous comments and so forth.”

—————————

Thompson did not suggest that stories about his wife should be off limits. He understands the ways of politics. But he believes that now is not the right time for Jeri Thompson or the Thompson pre-campaign to address them in detail. “She’s not going to become a public commentator and personality as a candidate’s wife until there’s a candidate,” he said.

Big, Big Government

datePosted on 22:14, January 31st, 2007 by Brian

The federal government is exercising powers it does not constitutionally have. What are the chances this will change? Next to none. From an article by John Stossel

…the U.S. government says its drug laws trump the states laws, and in 2005, the Supreme Court agreed.

This is not the way it was supposed to work. The constitutional plan presented in the Federalist Papers delegated only a few powers to the federal government, with the rest reserved to the states. The system was hailed for its genius.

While this is specifically talking about drug laws it applies to almost any area the Feds get into. Which party will keep this from happening? Or slow it down? Come on…neither wants that to happen. Both ignore the limits put on the federal government by the Constitution. And most Americans are too into celebrity watching, who’s going to be the next American Idol or win the Superbowl to even care. Not that those aren’t interesting events but come on. Do you want someone in DC deciding what and how your children are taught? How much influence do you think a person can have on Washington as opposed to your state or county?

I wonder how many teens are going to lose their jobs because of the Democrat’s attempt to buy votes.

Giuliani For Prez??

If Rudy Giuliani does run for President, I would go vote in the primary for him. I believe he can win the Presidency, maybe by a lot depending on the Democrat running, but getting the Republican nomination will be the hardest thing.
