Clean coal

It’s great that power companies are looking at ways to clean up coal burning power plants. I saw a commercial by GE the other day saying the same thing. BUT, check out the start of this article:

Feeling smug about driving a hybrid electric vehicle?

Terrific. Now you might want to ask yourself what impact your choice will have on the electricity grid.

Energy analysts say evolving technologies such as hybrid cars could add to the demand placed on already-stretched electricity networks. That potential new demand, along with current trends among industry and consumers, is turning the spotlight on a sooty old friend: coal.

All well and good, right? Problem is, hybrid vehicles, at least the ones in the States, don’t use the power grid. The electricity used is generated on board. NOT by plugging in to the grid. Knowing that, the rest of the article is suspect.
